Energy Star Certification

ENERGY STAR is a credible government-backed program that identifies highly energy efficient products in the marketplace that was Launched in 1992 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Each product is independently certified to meet a strict set of standards for energy efficiency set by the EPA. Certification is administered by more than 20 certification bodies and over 500 labs. The program not only increases market awareness and encourages the innovation of other energy efficient products, but it also allows consumers and businesses to make well informed decisions in purchasing products that save money and protect the environment. In 2018 alone, 20 billion dollars in energy costs were saved and 150 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions were avoided as a result of the ENERGY STAR program.

ENERGY STAR works in the residential sector, with home builders, developers, manufactured housing plants, home energy rating companies, and countless U.S. utilities to construct more energy efficient housing. In addition, ENERGY STAR has tools that allow homeowners with existing residences that are not ENERGY STAR certified, to connect with contractors and make their homes more energy efficient and comfortable.

The ENERGY STAR program also plays a vital role for commercial buildings. The ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager tool allows businesses to track their energy use, water use, and waste. This tool provides the information businesses need in order to be more cost effective in managing their energy use. Businesses ultimately save energy and money, while helping boost Competitiveness. Commercial buildings that are ENERGY STAR certified require roughly 35% less energy than those that are not.

ENERGY STAR is also used in the construction and development of industrial plants,  in order to promote energy efficiency in the industrial sector. ENERGY STAR tools give companies in the industrial sector the information they need to make smart investment and energy efficient decisions. Ultimately, ENERGY STAR helps businesses in the industrial sector save money and energy.
